How we met

Told from Sam’s point of view

We were both working at an advertising agency here in Nashville. I was the intern, and Katie was the way-out-of-my-league employee. We hit it off after I weaseled my way onto a project she was running.

I remember the first time I saw her. She walked past me wearing this electric blue jumpsuit—I know I did a double take.

I ended up asking her out on my last day of work. One day later, I was on the best first date of my life. She took me to Dino’s (pictured above) and we stayed talking well into the night.

6 years later she’s my best friend and bride-to-be. I’ll be forever glad I took that unpaid internship, because let me tell you… it paid me in so many other ways.

The Proposal

Told from Katie’s point of view

Unbeknownst to me, I planned Sam a surprise birthday trip the same weekend he’d planned on proposing. Double-unbeknownst to me, this really stressed him out.

I knew something was up when he suggested a sunrise hike… Sam hates waking up early.

- Katie

We were headed to Asheville, NC for the weekend to see our favorite artist, Ray LaMontagne, and do some hiking. Now that I look back, he was extra smiley and extra odd all weekend.

The morning after the show, we woke up at 4:30am, and drove to Max Patch to watch the sunrise. We had the mountaintop to ourselves. As we were sitting there, sipping our coffees and talking about the future, Sam got on one knee and proposed. I did a happy dance. (And said yes.)
